I think it\u2019s best at times like these to sit back and let my patient take it all in. <strong>Mel hasn\u2019t just had her teeth straightened &#8211; she\u2019s had her life changed for the good. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>\u2018It starts with a smile\u2019 Survey <\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of our patients come to us because they are secretly embarrassed and insecure with having crooked, twisted or overlapping teeth. This can lead to deep ingrained issues of self-confidence and can often lead to problems in their everyday life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was borne out in a recent survey of 2,000 people in the US which looked at the impact that straightening one\u2019s teeth has on their overall confidence. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.invisalign.com\/news-and-events\/2016\/invisalign-national-survey-results-released#sm.0000119gffau8wdw1pcojmfgtzu6j\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The survey<\/a>, commissioned by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparkbraceclinic.co.uk\/invisalign\/\">Invisalign <\/a>and carried out by Harris Poll,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0looked at \u00a0the effect of \u00a0straight teeth on various \u00a0factors \u00a0including appearance, success and happiness. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text]<div class=\" ubtn-ctn-center \"><a class=\"ubtn-link ult-adjust-bottom-margin ubtn-center ubtn-large \" href=\"http:\/\/parkbraceclinic.flywheelsites.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/startswithasmilesurvey.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" ><button type=\"button\" id=\"ubtn-2208\"  class=\"ubtn ult-adjust-bottom-margin ult-responsive ubtn-large ubtn-no-hover-bg  none  ubtn-sep-icon ubtn-sep-icon-at-left  ubtn-center   tooltip-6646ba1f34a78\"  data-hover=\"\" data-border-color=\"\" data-bg=\"#481596\" data-hover-bg=\"#8224e3\" data-border-hover=\"\" data-shadow-hover=\"\" data-shadow-click=\"none\" data-shadow=\"\" data-shd-shadow=\"\"  data-ultimate-target='#ubtn-2208'  data-responsive-json-new='{\"font-size\":\"\",\"line-height\":\"\"}'  style=\"font-weight:bold;border:none;background: #481596;color: #ffffff;\"><span class=\"ubtn-data ubtn-icon\"><i class=\"Defaults-edit pencil-square-o\" style=\"font-size:16px;color:#ffffff;\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"ubtn-hover\" style=\"background-color:#8224e3\"><\/span><span class=\"ubtn-data ubtn-text \" >View the original survey<\/span><\/button><\/a><\/div>[vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, I didn\u2019t want this blog post to just be a summary of the survey results &#8211; the fact is that \u00a0many of the survey results were not a real surprise &#8211; for example 92% of those surveyed said that having straight teeth was important to their confidence. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What was \u00a0interesting though, was the finding that <strong>teeth<\/strong> came second only to \u00a0<strong>weight \u00a0<\/strong>as an issue in which \u00a0people \u00a0continue to feel insecure. Other physical and personal characteristics were considered not as important including <em>nose<\/em>, \u00a0<em>height<\/em> and even your <em>personality<\/em>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the main, the results of the survey reaffirmed what I have already experienced and seen in my own patients &#8211; improving the state of your teeth and smile will directly result in improved confidence \u00a0and ultimately help in reducing any barriers to success in areas of \u00a0day-to-day life. These areas include job interviews, presentations at work, networking, public speaking and confidence in front of the camera. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Our role as dental professionals<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I think that as dental professionals, we can easily get caught up in the technology and various technical details of each treatment. Obviously these are extremely important and I have trained hard and gained many years experience as an Orthodontist. However, it\u2019s at times like these \u2018big reveals\u2019 \u00a0that we get to really appreciate how the work we carry out can really have a dramatic and positive affect on our patient\u2019s lives. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>We deliver more than just smiles<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s important to recognise \u00a0the deeply held motivations of our prospective patients and appreciate that what we\u2019re doing is more than just straightening their \u00a0teeth. Rather, we\u2019re \u00a0\u00a0helping our patients radically improve \u00a0\u00a0the \u00a0perception they have of themselves, giving them the confidence to achieve more and ultimately help them grab more opportunities in their lives, both at work and at home.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>So how do we deliver smiles?\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first step is usually to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparkbraceclinic.co.uk\/free-consultation\/\"><strong>arrange a <\/strong><\/a><\/span><strong>free consultation<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with Stacey, our Treatment Co ordinator.
